Book Introduction
Riddles of Ancient History is presented in this catalog under Alexander Gorbovsky’s name, with a Kurdish translation credited to Jalal Taqi. The corresponding Russian work is explicitly framed as a book of hypotheses. That description matters: readers should distinguish the author’s proposed explanations from conclusions established through historical or archaeological evidence.
The original foreword discusses a speculative account of an advanced ancient civilization and a major catastrophe. It also acknowledges that the book’s propositions are not all proven. The work therefore belongs to a tradition of imaginative inquiry into the distant past and should be approached with critical attention rather than treated as an authoritative account of early human history.
Readers can use the book to examine how an argument is constructed. What evidence is offered for a claim? Is a cited tradition being interpreted as literal history? Does a resemblance between accounts establish a connection, or could other explanations be possible? Asking these questions allows interest in the author’s ideas to coexist with careful evaluation.
The Kurdish translation offers readers an opportunity to encounter this style of speculative historical writing in their own language. A useful companion activity is to compare a selected claim with recent archaeological scholarship and keep separate notes on evidence and interpretation. The book may interest readers exploring the history of ideas and the appeal of ancient mysteries. Its most constructive use is as a prompt for inquiry and source comparison, with contemporary specialist research providing the broader factual context.
